Percy Leon Skaggs, Sr.
Percy L. Skaggs, Sr. of Mineral Point, Missouri was born on May 30, 1918 in Palmer, Missouri a son of the late, Abagail (Cover) Skaggs and Ferd Skaggs. Percy departed this life on April 28, 2008 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of eighty-nine years, ten months and twenty-nine days.
Percy was united in marriage to Rosetta Gibson on February 11, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Percy is survived by his loving wife, Rosetta Skaggs of Mineral Point, Missouri; one daughter, Jeannie Bridgeman and husband, Don of Leadwood, Missouri; two sons, Percy Skaggs, Jr. of Potosi, Missouri, Ed Lawson and wife, Belinda of Arcadia, Missouri; one brother, Glenwood Skaggs of Springtown, Missouri; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Percy was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Gibson, three brothers, Pearl Skaggs, Wilburn Skaggs an infant brother and loyal pet, Rip.
Percy or as many of his family and friends called him Pa, loved family gatherings and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He had joined the C.C. Camp as a young man and worked as a carpenter. Percy also worked as a firefighter in California in the Big Red Woods Forests and Oregon. He also enjoyed woodworking and vegetable gardening. Pa was a kind hearted, generous man who will be greatly missed.
Visitation was held Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Friday, May 2, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Friday, May 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend George DeClue officiating. Honoring Percy by serving as pallbearers were: Martin Thomas, Rick Hurt, Robert Keay, Roger Skaggs, Marty Stringer and Tracy Hovick.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
