Donald “Dickie” Lee Smith of Cadet, MO was born on August 20, 1951 in Richwoods, MO, a son of late George Leo Smith and the late Norma Lee Northcutt Smith. Donald departed this life on January 11, 2019 surrounded by the love and care of his family at his home, having reached the age of sixty-seven years, four months and twenty-two days.
Donald was united in marriage to Theresa “Tess” Daugherty on June 13, 1970 in Old Mines, MO.
Donald is survived by his wife, Theresa “Tess” Smith of Cadet; two daughters: Sandi Coffman and husband Kevin of Terre Du Lac, MO, Melissa Reihl and husband Jerry of St. Peters, MO; one son: D.J. Smith and wife Crystal of Old Mines, MO; two brothers: George “Jump” Smith and wife Ina of Old Mines, MO, Warren “Beany” Smith and wife Nancy of Cadet, MO, twelve grandchildren: Kody Bourbon, Dustin Eye, Maddi Staffen, Kevin Lee Coffman, Jessica Hedgecorth, Jamilyn Hedgecorth, Kaitlyn Coffman, Rachel Hedgecorth, Hannah Smith, Dustin Belfield, Abby Reihl, Landon Reihl, and six great-grandchildren: Hailey Bourbon, Karter Bourbon, Kori Bourbon, Blaine Eye, Cohen Eye and Amaya Belfield and by many other dear and special relatives and friends.
Donald served his Country in the United States Navy, enlisting on March 25, 1971 and was stationed on the USS Lexington. He was issued the National Defense Service Medal and was appointed Yeoman Third Class on February 16, 1974. Donald was released from active duty on March 25, 1975 and transferred to the Naval Reserve. He was Honorably discharged on March 25, 1977.
Donald attended Belfontaine and Kingston schools and graduated from Potosi High School. Don spent forty-one years with Cimbar and finished as a superintendent. Don enjoyed music and was in a band, “County Line”, for fifteen years. Donald loved to tinker and fix anything, especially tractors and lawn mowers. Don loved to go hunting, fishing and golfing. Don’s greatest love was for his family, as he always enjoyed their company.
