Don Smith of Mineral Point, Missouri was born on Tuesday, March 22, 1927 in Minneapolis, Minnesota a son of the late, Amy Sophia (Erickson) Smith and Richard Smith. Don departed this life on Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of eighty years, nine months and thirty days.

Don was united in marriage to Nina (Masson) Lollar on June 3, 1989 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Don is survived by his wife, Nina Smith of Mineral Point, Missouri; two daughters, Debbie Lollar of Mineral Point, Missouri; Tammy Portell and husband, Bobby of Mineral Point, Missouri; one sister, Betty Gillis of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Shannon Vance, Kyle Portell; two great grandchildren, Allison Grace Vance, Thomas Vance; very dear niece, Madeline Madden and husband, J.R. of Sugarland, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Ann Boucher and husband James of Selmer, Tennessee and Robin Portell and husband Vincent of Cadet, Missouri; special friends, Glen and Sharon Missey of Potosi, Missouri; also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, one brother, Dave Smith, preceded Don in death.

Don served his country by enlisting into the United States Navy on April 6, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri. While serving in the Navy Don was awarded the Victory Medal and was honorably discharged on July 11, 1946.

Don was a member of the Mineral Point United Methodist Church and had pronounced his profession of faith. He was an engineer at McDonnell Douglas Corporation where he worked on F-15 and F-16 aircrafts. Don was a realtor and broker who owned and operated Don Smith Realty. He enjoyed working on his tractor bailing hay and raising cattle. Don loved to go camping and traveling all over the United States especially back to Branson where he had lived for ten years. Don was a good Christian who loved spending time with family, friends and his two golden retrievers, Cinnamon and Ginger, who will lovingly miss Don and his love for life.

Visitation was held Tuesday, January 22, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM and Wednesday, January 23, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Service was held Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Jerry Compton officiating. Musical selections were: “Wind Beneath My Wings” By: Bette Midler, “How Great Thou Art” By: Mel Tillis and “One Day At a Time” By: Cristy Lane. Serving as pallbearers were: Kyle Portell, Bobby Portell, Chris Portell, Vincent Portell, Glen Missey, William Maness, Dave Vance and Jeff Masson.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri, where Don received full military honors consisting of a firing party, taps, flag folding and presentation.

Memorials may directed to the Mineral Point United Methodist Church.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
