George Thomas Smith
George Thomas Smith of Potosi, Missouri was born on Thursday, April 4, 1929 in Anthonies Mill, Missouri a son of the late, Bonnie (Dilks) Smith and George T. Smith, Sr. George departed this life on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of seventy-eight years, seven months and twenty-three days.
George is survived by two daughters, Glenda White of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Susan Ortega of Richwoods, Missouri; four sons, Donald Smith of Richwoods, Missouri, Randy Smith of Richwoods, Missouri, Glen Smith of Potosi, Missouri, Carl Smith of Richwoods, Missouri; two sisters, Lois Weiss of Texas, Clara Adelle Charboneau of Potosi, Missouri; twelve grandchildren including, Casey, Alisha, William, Timothy, Donald Ray, Jr. and Heather Ann, six great grandchildren and good friend, Connie Lawson of Potosi, Missouri. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by one son, Sam Smith, two sisters, Dorothy Miner and Dorothy Witt, two brothers, Ralph Charboneau and Leonard Witt and best friend, Lonnie Callahan.
George served two terms in the United States Army enlisting on March 9, 1951 during the Korean War and receiving an honorable discharge on March 10, 1953 and again enlisting on January 13, 1954 and receiving an honorable discharge on January 11, 1957. After George served in the Army he began working as a roofer, which he enjoyed very much, until his retirement in 1990. George loved visiting with his family, especially his sister, Lois. He also enjoyed going fishing and watching television.
A Graveside Service was held Friday, November 30, 2007 at 12:30 PM at the Horine Cemetery, Richwoods, Missouri with Reverend Ardell Gray officiating.
Burial took place in the Horine Cemetery, Richwoods, Missouri where George received full military honors consisting of a firing party, taps, flag folding and presentation.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
