Helen Ruby Spier
Helen Ruby Spier of Irondale, Missouri was born Thursday, September 1, 1921 in Irondale, Missouri a daughter of the late Mary Lillian (Chappell) Beck and Charles H. Beck. Helen departed this life Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri at the age of Eighty-two Years, Ten Months and Eighteen Days.
Helen was united in marriage to Earl J. Spier on May 3, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri. They were blessed to have Three children born to the union.
Helen is survived by One daughter, Dianne Horton and husband Dale of Irondale, Missouri; Two sons, Jim Spier and wife Kathy of Kokomo, Indiana, Sanford Spier and wife Brenda Irondale, Missouri; Three sisters, Edna Rice of Belleville, Illinois, Virginia Hartidge of Irondale, Missouri and Betty Denton of DeSloge, Missouri; Sister-in-law, Rosalie Beck of Irondale, Missouri; Five grandchildren; Eleven Great grandchildren and by many other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Helen was also preceded in death by her husband Earl J. Spier who preceded her in death on July 12, 1991; One sister, Evelyn Ferrell and One brother Charles “Charlie” Beck.
Helen and her husband opened the Blue Haven Café Irondale, Missouri August 26, 1946 and she has continued its operation since. She enjoyed working with her family in the farming business and taking time to go fishing. Helen had a great love for her family and her grand kids. Helen loved the town of Irondale and was very dedicated to the community. She enjoyed the family business and loved to take time from the kitchen and visit with the many customers.
Visitation was held Thursday, July 22, 2004 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Friday, July 23, 2004 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Irondale, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 23, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dan Fullbright officiating.
Final prayers and burial was at the Big River Cemetery, Irondale, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were James Fornash, Howard Barbee, Greg Horton, Bill Horton, Leo Barton, Curtis Rhodes and Jim Spier.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 109 Oak Street, Potosi, Missouri.
