Herbert Leroy “Grassy” Stringer of Potosi, Missouri was born on Monday, March 13, 1939 in Mineral Point, Missouri a son of the late, Mildred Leona (LaChance) Stringer and Herbert Hadley Stringer. He departed this life on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of seventy-two years, eight months and three days.
Herbert was united in marriage to Laverta (Politte) Stringer on February 28, 1958 in Springtown, Missouri.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife, Laverta “Bert” Stringer of Potosi, Missouri; two daughters, Belinda Politte and husband, Lester of Potosi, Missouri, Melinda Caruthers and friend, Steve Slover of Potosi, Missouri; four sons, Richard Stringer and wife, Donna of Potosi, Missouri, Buck Stringer and wife, Brenda of Potosi, Missouri, Randy Stringer and friend, Dessie, Marty Stringer and wife, Marsha; four sisters, Maxine O’Neal and friend Arthur Sancegraw of Mineral Point, Missouri, Faye Gamble and husband, Kenneth of Mineral Point, Missouri, Sue Suttles and husband, Joe of Mineral Point, Missouri, Lillian Midgett and husband, Ellis of DeSoto, Missouri; one brother, Robert Stringer and wife, Pauline of Naples, Florida; five sisters-in-law, Norma Hedrick of Mineral Point, Missouri, Delana Stringer of Potosi, Missouri, JoAnn Skaggs of Mineral Point, Missouri, Peggy Adams and husband, Gary of Mineral Point, Missouri, Rhonda Adams and husband, Robert of Stoney Point, Missouri; four brothers-in-law, Bill Politte and wife, Wanda of Festus, Missouri, Mike Politte and wife, Connie of Cadet, Missouri, Bill Goodson of Springtown, Missouri and Robert Politte and wife Norma Jean of Potosi, Missouri; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Goodson, two brothers, Jerry Stringer and Ralph Stringer, one sister-in-law, Rachael Shepard.
Herbert or as he was known by many as “Grassy” loved his family with all of his heart especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. Going on camping trips at Woodland Lakes. “Grassy” enjoyed playing lottery tickets and visiting with his family.
Visitation was held Saturday, November 19, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Sunday, November 20, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held 1:00 PM Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Brother Bud Lawson and Reverend Bobby Adams officiating.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were Richard Stringer, Marty Stringer, Randy Stringer, Buck Stringer, Lester Politte and Derrick Bourbon. Honorary Pallbearers were Bill Politte, Zachary Ballard and Josh Stringer.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
