Leon Taylor of Potosi, Missouri was born on Thursday, May 8, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri a son of the late, Mayme (Feltz) Taylor and James Emmit Taylor. Leon departed this life on Monday, December 27, 2010 at his residence having reached the age of eighty-years, seven months and nineteen days.
Leon was united in marriage to Ramona Sue Coy on October 13, 1962 in Hillsboro, Missouri.
Leon is survived by three daughters, Cindy Johnson and husband, Cliff of Potosi, Missouri, Penny Portell and special friend, Danny of Potosi, Missouri, Pamela Rodgers and husband, Al of Arnold, Missouri; two sisters, Alberta Dekold and husband, Peter of DeSoto, Missouri, Emma Keim and husband, Julius of Imperial, Missouri; two brothers, James “Bud” Taylor and wife, Olive of Herculaneum, Missouri, Lloyd Reissing and wife, Evelyn of Hillsboro, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, James, Jennifer, Julie, Taylor, Stephanie and Jerry; six great-grandchildren, Braden, Holen, Madalyn, Parker, Easton and Cody; sister-in-law, Anna R. Taylor of Hillsboro, Missouri; also surviving are thirteen nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Taylor who passed away December 18, 1978, one sister, Thelma Reissing and one brother, Paul Taylor.
Leon served his country by enlisting into the United States Marine Corp on November 27, 1951 during the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge on November 3, 1953.
Leon enjoyed spending time outdoors going hunting or working in his garden. He loved his family and looked forward to family gatherings. Leon will always be remembered for the love and laughter he shared with his family and friends.
Visitation was held Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Joe Welschmeyer officiating.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were Al Rodgers, James Tucker, Rodney “Roddie” Price, Shawn Donoho, Mike Evans and Donnie Broccard.
The Missouri Funeral Honors Team and the Washington County VFW Post # 6996 gave full Military Honors. Honors included Taps, Gun Salute and Folding and Presentation of the American Flag.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
