Theresa Elaine West (nee Remion), a beloved member of the community, passed on December 22, 2023, at the age of 98. Born on November 1, 1925, in Savannah, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Marie Antoinette (Merciea) Remion and John B. Remion. Theresa led an extraordinary life filled with love, laughter, and selflessness.
Theresa dedicated over 20 years of her life to serving the people of Washington County. Her commitment and passion were evident in her work at the Washington County Clerk’s office. She also made significant contributions to the Independent Journal in Potosi. Through her dedication and hard work, Theresa left an indelible mark on her colleagues and those she served.
Theresa's vivacious personality was infectious, and she had a lively spirit that brought joy to everyone around her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and have fun. Her kindness, love, and care for others were truly unparalleled. Theresa always put the needs of others before her own, making sure that everyone felt valued and supported.
In her leisure time, Theresa indulged in activities that brought her immense joy. She loved the thrill of gambling and playing the lottery; it was one of the many ways she embraced life's excitement. Spending time with her family and friends held a special place in her heart. Whether it was going to auctions or enjoying a glass of wine together, Theresa cherished every moment shared with her loved ones.
Theresa will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband Stanley West Sr.; their son Stanley "Butch" West Jr., as well as Garry West, Larry West, and Gerald "Jerry" West; sisters Matilda Remion, Anne Hall, Dolores Clark; brothers Louis Remion, John Baptisti Remion, Walter Remion, William Remion; grandsons Cole West and Zachary Taylor West-Strong; and great-grandson Caden Wayne West-Hastie.
Theresa is survived by her loving daughters, Janet Sebring and husband Bob of Wentzville, MO, and Renee Strong and husband Todd of Imperial, MO. Her influence will continue to guide her grandchildren: Shelley (Romero) Solis, Brian (Amy) West, Natalie "Bree" (Michael) DeYoung, Katie (Shea) O'Harrow, Jason (Sara) West, Robbie Sebring, Justin West, Heather (Brantley) Byrd, Lindsey (Jason) Jarvis, Kyle (Kati) Sebring. Theresa's daughters-in-law Carole "Sissy" Lawrence, Mary Pat West, Brenda West, Annie West will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
As a testament to the impact she had on the lives she touched, Theresa was also survived by 22 great-grandchildren. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives who held a special place in her heart.
Theresa was a remarkable woman whose legacy will continue to shine through the memories shared by those fortunate enough to have known her. Her unwavering love and selflessness serve as an inspiration for all of us.
