THOMAS JULIAN CARLYON
THOMAS JULIAN CARLYON OF ST. LOUIS, FORMERLY OF POTOSI, MISSOURI, WAS BORN OCTOBER 3, 1926, IN HOPEWELL, MISSOURI, A SON OF THE LATE PHILLIP J. AND JULIA S. (THOMPSON) CARLYON. THOMAS DEPARTED THIS LIFE AT ST. ANTHONY'S MEDICAL CENTER ON APRIL 21, 1999, HAVING REACHED THE AGE OF SEVENTY-TWO YEARS, SIX MONTHS AND EIGHTEEN DAYS.
THOMAS IS SURVIVED BY TWO SONS, WILLIAM "BILL" CARLYON AND FIANCÉ JANIS OF ST. LOUIS, KEITH CARLYON AND DEBBIE OF HILLSBORO, THREE DAUGHTERS, JUDY CURTIS AND HUSBAND RON OF ST. LOUIS, DIANA NORMAN AND FIANCÉ DR. BRAD STOWERS OF MISSION, TEXAS, ANGALA ANDERSON AND HUSBAND TIM OF HARLINGEN, TEXAS, NINE GRANDCHILDREN, ONE BROTHER, PAUL CARLYON OF HOPEWELL AND BY MANY OTHER RELATIVES AND FRIENDS. IN ADDITION TO HIS PARENTS HE WAS ALSO PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS WIFE, AUDREY L. (BELFIELD) CARLYON, ONE BROTHER, CLEVE CARLYON AND ONE INFANT SISTER SARAH CAMILLA CARLYON.
THOMAS SERVED HIS COUNTRY IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY FROM DECEMBER 1944 TO AUGUST 3, 1946, HAVING BEEN STATIONED IN THE PHILIPPINES, THOMAS RECEIVED AN HONORABLE DISCHARGED AND SERVED IN THE RANK OF TECHNICIAN 5TH GRADE. THOMAS WAS A MEMBER OF THE V.F.W. POST #6996. THOMAS ENJOYED FARMING ESPECIALLY WORKING WITH HIS CATTLE. HE LOVED TO TAKE TIME TO HUNT AND FISH AND WORK IN HIS VEGETABLE GARDEN. THOMAS ENJOYED SOCIALIZING, BAR-B-QING, COOKING AND CUTTING UP. THOMAS HAD WORKED IN THE LEADWOOD MINES, WAS A SUBSTITUTE U.S. MAIL TRUCK DRIVER AND WAS RETIRED FROM HOBART CORP. AFTER 20 YEARS OF SERVICE.
A KIND AND LOVING FATHER, GRANDFATHER, BROTHER AND DEAR FRIEND WHO WILL BE SADLY MISSED AND LOVINGLY REMEMBERED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM.
VISITATION WAS HELD FRIDAY, APRIL 23, 1999, FROM 4:00 P.M. TO 9:00 P.M. AT THE GUM & SON FUNERAL HOME IN POTOSI.
FUNERAL SERVICES WERE CONDUCTED SATURDAY, APRIL 24, 1999, AT 2:00 P.M. AT THE GUM & SON CHAPEL WITH REVEREND GUY CONWAY OFFICIATING. BURIAL WAS IN HOPEWELL CEMETERY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF GUM & SON FUNERAL HOME, POTOSI.
SERVING AS PALLBEARERS WERE, RALPH CARLYON, CALVIN RIDDLE, JIMMY BEATON, DANNY WALLS, WILLIAM T. SMALL AND DALE ADAMS.
