Willis Lester Thurman of Potosi, Missouri was born on Sunday, February 25, 1951 in Richwoods, Missouri a son of the late, Blanche (Rogers) Thurmond and William Thurmond. Lester departed this life on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of sixty years, four months and seventeen days.
Lester is survived by his fiancé, Billie Ward of Potosi, Missouri; one daughter, Becky Siewing and husband, Tim of Florence, South Carolina; one son, Lester “Willy” Thurman of Nevada; one stepdaughter, Christal Hicks and husband, Ronald of Cadet, Missouri; two stepsons, James Skaggs and fiancé, Katrina of Potosi, Missouri, Stacey Ward and wife, Lisa of Potosi, Missouri; one sister, Shirley Butler and husband, Don of Farmington, Missouri; three brothers, John Thurmond and wife, Shirley of Sullivan, Missouri; Carl Thurmond and wife, Laverne “Dee Dee” of Potosi, Missouri; Leo Thurmond of Richwoods, Missouri; five grandchildren, Tori, Tia, TJ, Weston, Karley; two step grandchildren, Chase and Sara; also surviving are other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by four sisters, Virginia Barton, Nellie Heads, Arlene Thurmond, infant Alberta Thurmond, four brothers, Frank Thurmond, Bob Thurmond, Louis Thurmond and Oscar Thurmond.
Lester enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He loved to watch the St. Louis Cardinals on T.V., fish and hunt. Lester also enjoyed collecting treasures of all types, cooking and tending to the car wash. He was always ready to tell amazing stories (fact or fiction) to whoever would listen. Lester will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation was held Saturday, July 16, 2011 from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Chapel with Reverend Charles Williams officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Mike Wientz, Gary Barton, Wes Heidbrier, Troy Thurmond, Jeremy Copeland and Ray Barton.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Horine Cemetery, Richwoods, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
