Carl Vance of St. Charles, Missouri formerly of Potosi, Missouri was born on Tuesday, November 10, 1931 in Potosi, Missouri to the late, Mildred Marie (Wilkerson) Vance and John Edward Vance. Carl departed this life on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of seventy-nine years, five months and seven days.
Carl was united in marriage to Phyllis Kathcart on October 27, 1951 in Pocahontas, Arkansas.
Carl is survived by wife, Phyllis Vance of St. Charles, Missouri; one daughter, Pamela Harris and husband, John of St. Charles, Missouri; one son, Gregory Lynn Vance and wife, Toby of St. Charles, Missouri; two sisters, Lealla Hill and husband, Donnie of Potosi, Missouri, Marcella Worley of Leslie, Missouri; one brother, Arnold Vance and wife, Jeannette of Potosi, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Sharon Forrester and husband, Wes of Potosi, Missouri, Glenda Farrow and husband, Perry of Potosi, Missouri, Debbie Belfield of Mineral Point, Missouri, Wilma Francis Vance of Potosi, Missouri, Judy Vance of Potosi, Missouri, Jean Roberson and husband, Ross of Mineral Point, Missouri; brother-in-law, Leroy Rolens of Shirley, Missouri; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Katie, Michael, Zachary; four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Morgan, Caleb and Nicholas; also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by one daughter, Carla J. Vance, three brothers, Curtis Vance, Derwood Vance, Charlie Vance, brothers-in-law, Robert Kathcart, Richard Belfield and sister-in-law, Marion Kitty Rolens.
Carl attended the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri and the St. Roberts Bellarmine Catholic Church, St. Charles, Missouri. He loved going to church with his family enjoying the many activities and fish fry’s. He retired from Ford Motor Company with over thirty years service in 1982. Carl also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors going fishing and quail hunting. Playing baseball and watching games was one of his favorite pastimes. Carl will be very deeply missed by all of his loved ones.
Visitation was held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Vigil Service at 5:00 PM and visitation also Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri by, Fr. Joe Welschmeyer, pastor; who presided with concelebrants Fr. Richard Tillman, Cadet; and Fr. James Finder of Holy Cross Church, Cuba, Missouri.
Serving as pallbearers were: Nathan Farrow, Scott Forrester, Jeff Vance, Michael Vance, Chuck Vance, Pat Rowe and honorary pallbearers, Zac Vance and Mike Vance.
In memory of Carl, memorials are to be directed to Alzheimer’s Association 9374 Olive Blvd. Suite 101, St. Louis, Missouri 63132-3253.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Calvary Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri.
A luncheon was provided by the St. James Catholic Church for family and friends after the services.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
