John Jacob Wallis
John Jacob Wallis, better known by friends and family as “Gov” of Potosi, Missouri was born on March 11, 1940 in Ironton, Missouri a son of the late Frank Wallis and Thelma (McClurg) Wallis. John departed this life on October 15, 2005 at the age of sixty-five years, seven months and four days at the Southbrook Skilled Nursing Center in Farmington, Missouri.
John is survived by one son, Chad Wallis of Potosi, Missouri; one brother, Frank Wallis, Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri and by many other dear and special relatives and friends.
John graduated High School from the Ironton High School in 1957, he continued his education at Mineral Area College where he graduated in 1959, he then attended Southeast Missouri State University and graduated in 1961. John then entered the graduate program with the University of Missouri in St. Louis and Columbia. After graduation John was employed at Kelly High School in Southeast Missouri for three years and then at Potosi R-3 School District for twenty-nine years. John had a great love for education and enjoyed his years as a teacher. He had the great memory and accomplishment of helping to nurture the minds of many in the area.
John was a thirty year plus member of the Potosi Elks Lodge #2218 where he was very active and dedicated to all of its activities. John worked at the Lodge Club Room for many years. John was also an active member of the Arcadia Valley Eagles Lodge, the Viburnum Eagles Lodge and a longtime member of the Steelville Country Club.
John had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. John enjoyed his many friends and was always ready to go for a road ride, to the lake or just visit and reminisce. In addition to his love for education and teaching, John had a great love for music, he was well known in the area for his Hog Wild Karaoke D.J. service. He had played in the area for many years and was always willing to do a charity job for the Elks or anyone else with a true need. John had enjoyed music for more than fifty years.
The King of Karaoke has now left the stage his final time.
A Graveside Service was held Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Caledonia Methodist Cemetery, Caledonia, Missouri at 1:00 PM. Serving as pallbearers was Ira Owens, Bob Owens, Jerry West, Joe Bust, Larry Bourbon, Whitey Lawson, Mike Nicholson and Larry Sadler.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of Moore Funeral Home, 105Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
