ALICE WILKINSON
Alice Wilkinson of Potosi, Missouri Formerly of Quaker, Missouri was born Sunday, December 13, 1903 in Quaker, Missouri a daughter of the late Louisa Jane (McClain) Martin and Wallace I. Martin. Alice departed this life Thursday, January 1, 2004 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital surrounded by the love and care of her family at the age of One Hundred Years and Nineteen Days.
Alice was united in marriage to Paul "Boose" Lyle Wilkinson September 25, 1927 in Courtois, Missouri. They made their home on the Farm where they raised Three Loving and Caring Daughters. Boose preceded his wife in death on Saturday, August 21, 1971 at the age of Sixty-Six Years.
Alice is survived by her devoted Daughters, June Evans of Park Hills, Missouri, Louise Newcomer and husband Homer of Potosi, Missouri and Barbara Cook of Farmington, Missouri; Seven Grandchildren, Dan Evans and wife Tina of Bismarck, Missouri, Michael Evans and wife Reatha of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Debbie Biller of Park Hills, Missouri, Mark Evans of Park Hills, Missouri, Dr. Gary Newcomer of Gainesville, Florida, Anita Smith and husband Mark of Jackson, Missouri and Ron Cook of St. Charles, Missouri; Fifteen Great Grandchildren; Twelve Great Great Grandchildren and by many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was also preceded in death by One Son-in-law, Eldon Evans; Six Sisters, Pearl Tedder, Lena Chapman, Lola Wilkinson, Blanche Tedder, Beulah Dowis and Hallie Ramsey; Four Brothers, Lewis Martin, Wesley Martin, Herbert Martin and Olin Martin.
Alice had accepted Christ as her savior and was a member of the Joseph Chapel Methodist Church for more than Seventy Years.
Alice loved to cook, especially when she found the dish that pleased a guest at her table. She strived to please everyone and would always put the thoughts and feelings of others first. She enjoyed creating quilt blocks and fashioning them into treasured heirlooms to be enjoyed and treasured by family and friends. Crocheting and other handiwork brought much relaxation to her. Alice hand wove rugs on a wooden loom. The rugs would bring joy and beauty to any room. Alice enjoyed the outdoors and loved to spend time in the garden and working with her flowers.
Alice was blessed in so many ways, with a fine and loving family, her relationship with God and the blessing to live through Two Centuries. Her wisdom and knowledge has been shared with her daughters, grandchildren and many friends. The Book of her life will not end now, but, will continue to have chapters written for generations to come by the memories shared of her.
Visitation was held Saturday, January 3, 2004 from 2:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and Sunday, January 4, 2004 from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, January 4, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Dr. Michael A. Coleman officiating. Musical Selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" provided by Joan Elsey, Pianist and Holly Turner Soloist. A special musical selection "The Entertainer" was played in her memory, her Grandson, Dr. Gary Newcomer had performed it upon her frequent request.
Burial and Grave side Services were held Sunday, January 4, 2004 at 2:30 P.M. at the Antioch Cemetery, Belgrade, Missouri. Honoring the memory of Alice as Pallbearers was her Son- in-law Homer Newcomer, Grandson-in-law, Mark Smith, Grandsons Mark Evans, Ron Cook, Nephews Jess Wilkinson and Harold Martin.
Services were entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
